In the home service arena, Google is the 2,000 pound elephant in the room. By buying a stake in ADT, the two companies are agreeing to “go exclusive,” with Google leveraging ADT’s massive base of installers and ADT transitioning to installing solely Google hardware.
In what is probably the industry’s biggest shakeup since HomeAdvisor purchased Angie’s List, we can see Google taking a two-tiered approach to the home improvement industry.
- The direct route: first-hand control, like providing Google-owned Nest products to ADT.
- The indirect route: like with Google Local Home Services, where Google connects local home pros with customers nearby

If you were to call any of those roofers, the roofer would be billed about $20-40 if you were interested in their roofing services, and zero dollars if you weren’t. Pretty neat, right?
It’s not just for roofers, either – Google Local Home Services provides leads to:

- Exteriors contractors
- Window and door companies
- HVAC, electricians, and plumbers
- And more categories all the time!
As you can see, Google is actively looking for ways to shake up the home improvement industry, one of the few industries that has so far been resistant to the tech giant’s consolidation.
